Goals
Jóvenes Con Visión program aims to:
-
Guide youth to identify their talents, academic and otherwise
-
Support youth in connecting with community members who have the knowledge and skills that the youth want to develop
-
Provide academic and other educational supports to middle and high school youth
-
Collaborate with parents so that youth feel surrounded by both the support of family and community in a coherent way
-
Nurture a love of learning and a commitment to utilizing one’s education as a means to contribute to one’s family, community, and society
About
Through this program, EYL youth will explore their talents and interests, connect with mentors, and access apprenticeship opportunities within the community. They will grow in their commitment to education while being part of a supportive group of peers striving to lead joyful, meaningful, and prosperous lives. As needed, youth will also receive tutoring and homework support, along with guidance through the college application process, including help with financial aid and scholarship applications.
How we do it
Youth will participate in ongoing activities designed to support their educational and career growth. These include:
-
Weekly peer groups with youth from the same neighborhood or school to identify and develop their unique talents and capacities.
-
Monthly workshops focused on educational opportunities and career exploration, featuring guest speakers, hands-on activities, and job shadowing experiences.
-
Regular home visits (monthly or quarterly) to build strong relationships with families and foster a shared vision for the youth’s future.
-
Quarterly family gatherings to celebrate Latinx culture and recognize the growth and achievements of the youth.
-
Annual celebrations such as Latinx graduations and grade advancements, providing space for youth to reflect on their journeys, share their goals, and present their work.
